“You’re never going to learn something as profoundly as when it’s purely out of curiosity.“
Christopher Nolan (July 30, 1970) is a film director, producer and screenwriter who is considered one of the most important, acclaimed and influential filmmakers of the 21st century. Nolan use to focus his movies around metaphysical and epistemological areas, surrounding topics such as personal identity, time and its malleability, human morality, among others.
Trademarks in Christopher Nolan's movies:
Time is malleable
Most of Nolan's movies are related with expansion, contraction of the time and dreams.
Examples:
Memento: Hero forgets the events and is affected directly by the time.
Inception: The main character dreamt so much that he must have a totem to keep the
track of what is real and what is not. This is related to a dream, due to the case that in a dream, the events and situations are not in order.
Interstellar: Nolan shows in this movie how time is malleable and events are not in order.
Disturbed heroes
The heroes in most of Nolan's movies are disturbed permanently by events of their personal life such as a disturbed family, or love, etc.
Examples:
Batman: The hero (batman) is disturbed and he overcomes his fears.
Inception: Cobb is constantly driven by the guilt that he is responsible for his wife´s death.
Insomnia: The hero (Al Pacino) is disturbed by the killer and his surroundings.
Noir touch
A big amount of his films have a noir touch
Real effects
Nolan prefers real effects over CGI (computer generated imagery)
